A Minecraft server built for the fun of it
Blockfield was a semi-public Minecraft server I built around a simple idea: give people a place where they could build, explore, and play together without forcing everyone into the same way of playing.
The server used a modified vanilla setup, with room for building, mining, redstone, combat, and faction-based gameplay. Players could treat it either as a relaxed place to play with others, or take the competitive side of it more seriously.
I built and managed the project from the ground up, covering the technical side as well as the gameplay, community, administration, and day-to-day operation.

Building the world around what made our childhood
A large part of Blockfield was figuring out how all the different parts of the server should fit together.
That included the server infrastructure itself, gameplay systems, rules, faction mechanics, community management, development, and the smaller operational decisions that tend to appear once people are actually using something.
I also invested heavily in the project personally. At its busiest, operating costs could reach around US$200 per month, despite the server never being run for profit.

Blockfield is probably the project I've invested the most into in terms of both time and money.
It never became a profitable business, and that was never really the point. I wanted to build a Minecraft server that I would personally enjoy playing and that other people would want to come back to.
That made it quite different from some of my other projects. There was no client brief and no predefined organisation waiting for me to manage. I had to decide what the project should be, build it, operate it, listen to players, fix things when they broke, and keep deciding what was worth working on next.
Looking back, that is probably why I consider Blockfield one of my most successful projects. Not because of revenue or scale, but because of how much I learned from actually building and running something I cared about.
